Sailing Holland and DutchSail announce that they will compete in the upcoming edition of The Ocean Race with ‘SAILING TEAM NEXTGEN’ – a Dutch-owned team sailing on behalf of yacht clubs the KNZ&RV and KRZV De Maas.
The campaign focuses on future generations and is supported by five partners, each of whom is committed to the next generations based on their own expertise. In addition, the team can count on the support of a large group of companies, united in a business club.
It’s the thirteenth time in fourteen editions a Dutch-owned team will compete in the world’s most prestigious sailing competition around the world.
The campaign can count on the support of Carolijn Brouwer, who made history in the last edition by being the first woman to win the race.
FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
The campaign creates a unique collaboration between the most important Dutch sailing organizations, knowledge institutions, and companies. Who are all jointly supporting a better world for the next generations.
“We opted for a broad campaign. A campaign where there is room for larger and smaller sponsors next to the business club. These are all companies that can identify themselves with themes such as innovation, sustainability, and a high-performance culture.” according to team director Gideon Messink from Sailing Holland. Messink, together with Anita van Oeveren, was also responsible for Team Brunel, in the previous two editions of the race.
Van Oeveren: “All these partners have one thing in common: they contribute to a better world based on their own expertise. The talks with a number of these parties are in the final phase, so we can now launch the campaign. At the same time we certainly still have room for companies to join the team. Supporting the team can be done in different ways, depending on budget and interest. We also need that extra support to be able to set up a winning campaign.”
BROUWER WANTS TO INSPIRE
After three participations in foreign teams, it’s the first time that Carolijn Brouwer has committed herself to a Dutch campaign in The Ocean Race.
About The Ocean Race
Since 1973, The Ocean Race has provided the ultimate test of a team and a human adventure like no other. For nearly 50 years, it has kept an almost mythical hold over some of the greatest sailors and been the proving ground for the legends of our sport.
The 14th edition of The Ocean Race will start from Alicante, Spain on 15 January 2023, and will finish in Genova, Italy early in the summer of 2023. The race will visit nine iconic cities around the globe over a six-month period and will feature a leg with the longest racing distance in the 50-year history of the event – a 12,750 nautical mile, one-month marathon from Cape Town, South Africa to Itajaí, Brazil. The two fleets of mixed crews on foiling IMOCA 60 and one-design VO65 will pass all three great southern Capes – Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn – non-stop, for the first time.
The Ocean Race Europe
In May/June of 2021, twelve IMOCA and VO65 teams participated in the inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Europe, starting in Lorient, France on May 29 and finishing in Genova, Italy on June 19, with stops in Cascais, Portugal and Alicante, Spain.
Offshore Team Germany won the IMOCA division, with the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team heading the VO65 fleet.
